I’m not really sure why I dislike watching TV, but it certainly leaves a bitter taste in my mouth every time I do. Advertising is rife, and the shows that are usually on, don’t really interest me that much. I end up feeling like a zombie, flicking through channels, trying to find something of mediocre taste to consume my time.
What's this have to do with music, you ask?
I think the music industry is shifting in many ways. I feel that “POP MUSIC” is just like watching TV. It is catered for mass consumption. Like McDonalds. It’s handy and easily accessible, but really, it tastes like shit!
Don’t get me wrong, there are certain songs throughout history that have been amazing! Artists like Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, MADONNA!!!… I love their music! They are icons! But I do feel that times are a changing.
The future is here and it’s not a one-size-fits-all scenario. I LOVE finding new and interesting music. By artists, that are out there doing the hard slog, creating music with their hearts; artists who aren’t worried about making millions of dollars in music sales or from their live shows.
I am really inspired by my friend (and fellow band member), Abraham Tilbury. He started is own music blog where he features the music that he loves and finds. You can find his blog here.
I feel that this is where the future of the music industry is at. It is not just about popular media; it’s about sharing an experience with others. Sharing the music you love. Creating it. Writing about it. Living it.
I would love to have your thoughts on this! Agree? Disagree?
